In Loving Memory of Waldo Smith

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Waldo Smith, who left this world peacefully, surrounded by family on January 31, 2025, in Manvel, Texas. Born on July 27, 1929, in Longbranch, Panola County, Texas, Waldo was the cherished son of Lula and Homer Smith and the devoted husband of 67 years to his beloved wife, Dorthy Smith (Hall).

Though he was our uncle by name, Waldo was so much more—a best friend, a guiding light, a cherished grandparent in heart and the cornerstone of our family. He grew up in Texas, sharing countless joyful summers with his siblings:  Margie Johnson, Edward Smith, Honorene Curl, Christine Smith, Eugene Smith, Weldon Smith, Nancy Black (his only surviving sibling), and Billy Smith. His love for family was boundless, rooted in deep connections and treasured memories that he carried and passed down through generations.

Waldo served his country with honor in post-World War II France and during the Korean War. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to the U.S. Department of Defense at The Pentagon, where his commitment, discipline and integrity left a lasting impact.

Waldo embraced life with unwavering love, wisdom, and humor. He was a steady hand in times of uncertainty, a voice of reason and a source of warmth and laughter. In retirement he became a passionate storyteller and family historian, preserving our rich heritage for future generations. His stories were more than memories-they were lessons in resilience, love and the beauty of family.

Now reunited with his beloved Dorthy, his parents and his siblings who preceded him in death, Waldo leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness and deep family pride. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Black; his nieces and nephews; grandchildren in heart; countless family and friends who were blessed by his presence..

Rest peacefully, dear Waldo. You were our anchor, our storyteller, our heart. You will be missed beyond words and loved beyond measure.
