Reflections of Life

Shirley Mae Garrett entered this world on the fifth day of May, in the year of nineteen hundred and forty-one. This sweet and beautiful baby girl was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to proud and loving parents, Jimmie Holiday and Mary Brown.

Shirley was taught about and accepted Jesus Christ at an early age in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She later moved to Houston and joined Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, New Providence, and Pure Light Baptist Church where she served as an usher and sung in the choir. She then moved back to Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a dedicated member under the leadership of Pastor L. David Punch. She served as the President of the Usher Board, Power Hour, Sunday School/Pastor Class, Women Mission Ministry, Summer Enrichment Program, Food Pantry and Culinary Committee. She served faithfully God until her health declined. While a resident of Capstone Healthcare Estates on Orem she served as the Resident Counsel President.

As much as we love Shirley Garrett, God loves her more. Shirley Garrett’s beautiful life came to an end on Thursday, January 27, 2022.Her husband, Leonard Garrett, her parents, Jimmie Holiday and Mary Allen, Willie Sr. (stepfather) and brother Willie Allen Jr., all preceded her in death.

She leaves to celebrate her heavenly victory and legacy to her children, Wanda Bailey, Brenda Foster (Willie), Leroy Bailey (Kimiko) and Gladys Phillips (Rex): sibling, James Pealer (Rosalee): grandchildren, Marisa Torchio, Danielle Henry (Corbin), William Bailey, Jacob Foster Sr., and Garrett Sam: great grandchildren Jasmine, Jacob, Azalea, Liam, Rainey, Leonardo, Nolan, Tiaga, Jacob Jr. and Elijah, honorary daughter Dianna Foster and God daughter Charlotte Burnett along with a host of nephews (great), nieces (great), cousins and other relatives and friends.
