James Rufus Lincoln III

April 30, 1954 – February 11, 2026

Mr. James Rufus Lincoln, III was born on April 30, 1954, as the fourth child of six children born to Mable Lincoln and James Rufus Lincoln Jr. in Houston, Texas. James carried a quiet strength of love for family, a heart full of music, and a quick wit with a playful spirit.

He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Pastor Therie Washington at Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church. James remained a faithful member of Nazarene until his health declined. He attended Sunday School and Bible School faithfully and served as president of the Male Chorus, where he led songs and helped organize the annual Male Chorus musical. He also sang tenor in the church choir, blessing the congregation with his voice and dedication for many years.

James received his early education at Edgar M. Gregory Elementary School and R. G. Lockett Jr High School. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln Sr High School and later attended Texas Southern University. His formative years helped shape his discipline and hard work ethic.

James began his career as a long-haul truck driver, embracing the open road and independence it brought. With a desire to be closer to home, he joined the U.S. Postal Service, faithfully serving for 38 years as an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer driver before retiring in 2021. He leaves behind a legacy of reliability and excellent service.

Beyond his professional life, James’ love for music brought joy to many. He performed in numerous USPS talent shows, entertaining co-workers and friends. He especially enjoyed the music of Sam Cooke, his famous cousin Charles Brown, and the inspirational gospel music passed down from his talented grandparents, who were pianists and organists.

He shared that love with his nieces and nephews by playing songs, singing, and passing down the timeless sounds he cherished. Whether at church, work, or family gatherings, music flowed naturally from his heart—often accompanied by laughter and his gift for lightening the mood.

At the close of his earthly journey, it was his unwavering faith in God that carried him home.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents, James Rufus Lincoln Jr. and Mable Lincoln; and his two brothers, Gerald Lincoln and William Lincoln I.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted sisters: Margaret Williams (Eddie), Cynthia Jackson, and Leatha Lincoln Whitfield; his beloved nieces and nephews: Monica, Demonesha (Dave), Nicole, William II (Danielle), Contessa, Jessica, Frank, and Emanuel; his great-nieces and great-nephew: William III, Ava, Shiron and Essence; as well as a host of cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his life and legacy. He also leaves behind his longtime special friend, Patricia, who will remember him with deep affection.
