Dexter Redd Jr.

January 6, 1986 – February 11, 2024

Dexter Zachary Redd Jr., 38, of Houston, TX tragically succumbed to the dark place associated with PTSD and depression on February 11, 2024. His loss is completely unexpected and his family is profoundly saddened.

Dj was born on January 6, 1986 to Lois and Dexter Sr. in the windy city of Chicago. He was one of 4 children: Aunjel, Shennae and Jasmine. He graduated from Miamisburg High School in Dayton and shortly thereafter joined the United States Army as a Tank Mechanic. He also served a full tour in Afghanistan.

Dj married Dana Pierce on June 12, 2021 and they began to build a life and family together. Dj was a loving and devoted father and stepfather to his children (Tatiana, Dexter Lamont, Dominique, Jerome, Anniese, Omari, Nevaeh, Ava and Melanie). The qualities of fatherhood that he embodied entailed unconditional love, generosity, security, resilience and patience. Like his father, he was a great provider, he aspired to be altruistic like his uncle Lamont and he loved a good cigar with his stepfather Thomas.

Dj was an honest, open and hilariously curious man. As you may know, people like this don’t come around often. He was the light, love and energy in any room he entered.

Dj is survived by his wife Dana, his children, his mother Lois (Thomas), his father Dexter Sr. (Renee), his siblings Aunjel(Alyssa), Shennae and Jasmine, his grandmother Ruthie, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

He is preceded in death by grandparents Viola and Larry Kendrick, uncle Lamont Hampton, grandmother Loretta Hampton and grandfather John Redd.

Mr Dexter was one of the sweetest beings that I have had the pleasure of meeting. The love he had for his wife Ms Dana and their kids was astronomical. I loved to watch them interact with each other. He will truly be missed.

Man Bro We spoke 2 Days before all this stuff happened and if I knew then what I know now I would’ve kept you on the phone a few minutes longer just to make sure you was really cool. I’m forever grateful for us reconnecting big bro. As kids we did a lot together as men we separated and found each other again. I love you forever past life bro. Yo lil bro/cuzzin for Cordero aka Cj. P.S I remember you used to laugh and tell me shut up whenever I told you that you act just like Uncle Dexter with how you would respond to stuff or how you’d shrug and smile and be like “Hey man, I’m living” damn I’m a miss you bro.

My brother was my only brother. I will forever miss his laugh and big smile. I will miss his huge heart and the way he said “love you jel”. My brother is unforgettable and I look for his messages to me daily. Dj, you are the kindest human I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and I will never stop thinking of you. Rest easy.

Little brother, Words cannot express how much I love and desperately miss you. Your laugh, your jokes, and all the dj-isms we've come about in our siblinghood still make me laugh. I wish God had given us more time together to make more memories, but the ones that we do have I will cherish with my whole heart. I want you to know that I will love you everyday, I will miss you everyday, and though my heart breaks in this moment, I know you're no longer suffering and that gives me great joy. Fly high my little dreamer, let us know how heaven is. See you later little brother. Shennae
