Doris Ellen Lee

A new chapter in Doris’ life was turned from earth to heaven on January 8, 2026, in Denver Colorado. She was the eldest daughter of seven children born to the late Rev. E.D. and Caroline Townsend in Granger, Texas. She attended Chrispus Attucks Grade and High school, and was an honor student. Upon graduating from high school, she enrolled in Prairie View A&M College in College Station to study biology, with a dream of becoming a research doctor. During her college years she met and married John H. Lee, and focused her attention around being a devoted faithful wife and mother to her only child Patricia Rose Lee born to this union.

Doris was a loving godly soft spoken Christian women with a gentle kindhearted spirit, loved by those who knew her well. She was a dedicated Adult Sunday School Teacher and member of the gospel choir at True Light Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Pastor Edward L. Lott for over 30 yrs. Upon moving to Denver Colorado, in 2018, she became a member of Solomon Temple Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Dr. John Tellis, Jr.

She loved singing, listening to Negro Spirituals, Gospel music, and many of the old traditional blues singers. She was a reader of all kinds of medical journals and books.  She was a good bowler for many years, until she was no longer able to bowl due to her failing health. Doris was a seamstress and tailor of men and women coats, suits and dresses, and with her sewing team they made display clothing for Hancock Fabric. She worked for many years as a research tech at Baylor Medical Center in Houston, and retired as a pulmonary tech and histology tech from the Veterans Medical Hospital in Houston.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents Rev. ED and Caroline Townsend; her two sisters Gladys Mae Townsend and Lillian Faye Townsend-Sandle; and two brothers ED, Jr. and Jerry Townsend. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter Patricia Rose Lee-Morris; her two sisters Nancy Townsend of Denver, Colorado, and Ella Townsend of Las Vegas, Nevada., and respectfully, a host of dearly beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
